We purchased these lights for Halloween this year and were pleasantly surprised. You can't tell from the attached photo, but the lights are reasonably bright, but not too bright to ruin the "spooky" theme we were going for. They give off a nice flickering effect that is subtle, but still noticeable. The light won't be mistaken for an actual flame as some of the product photos illustrate, but it's still a nice soft, warm look. I think you could use these for other occasions as well depending on the theme you're going for. I've only used them one season, so I can't speak too much for the overall longevity, but they seem durable and hopefully they last for a couple of more (at least).
