About the author
Kayla Cox is a Northeast Georgia native who ran off to Camp Pendleton, California, at the tender age of 19 to marry her college sweetheart turned United States Marine, J.R. A few years and three kids later, they hit the road in a Class-C RV and visited 37 states. It was on this adventure that she finally penned "The Laid Back Guide to Intermittent Fasting." After two years of full-time traveling, they landed in beautiful Central Florida, where Kayla currently resides amongst the abundant palm trees and house geckos.
When Kayla's not hammering away on her next novel with a cup of coffee in hand, you'll most likely find her curled up with a good book. She is also the creator of Six Miles to Supper, a YouTube channel with over 56,000 subscribers and 6.4 million views, where she shares her experience of losing 80 pounds with intermittent fasting and walking six miles a day and endeavoring to keep it off for the rest of her life.

1) Kayla presents am easy, common sense approach to IF. She tells what worked for her, but also encourages the reader experiment and customize their approach to what works for them. Some people might prefer a longer fast like 20:4 or 23:1. Others (like me) might prefer a shorter fast like 16:8 or 17:7. That is the great thing about IF is there are many ways it can be done. She also stresses that you should stick what works. If a 16:8 fast works for you, then there is no reason to change it. I also like that she includes a cheat day and makes allowance. She acknowledges that you will go off plan at times. She discusses how to track your progress, deal with plateaus, not stress about fluctuations, how to stay motivated and how to maintain. She also walks 6 miles a day. But that is what works for her. I also love that her plan is crazy simple. No counting calories, no counting macros or net carbs. No portion control. For me, 16:8 is very doable. The key is to find something YOU can stick with long term. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks is right or wrong. This type of plan is exactly what I need. My personality is very similar to Kayla's. I tried Weight Watchers several years ago. I did lose 60 pounds. But I got sick of tracking everything, calculating points and eating things I didn't want because they were low in Points. I'm not knocking WW. It may be great for someone else, but its not for me. I also don't want anything too restrictive. I know myself well enough to know that low carb or Keto is not sustainable for me long term. I was beginning to think I would never be able to find the right diet for me. I did my first ever fast yesterday. My eating window was 9 to 5 and then I fasted until 9 am this morning. I had a few hunger pangs, but water took care of them. I thought I would have a hard time not snacking. I was surprised how easy it was fasting for 16 hours. Having an 8 hr eating window means that I can switch it around if needed. I prefer toveat supper around 4:30. So a window of 9 to 5 works perfect. I also find that I can eat snacks during the day instead of at night. I also love what Kayla has to say about "Fake" hunger and genuine hunger. If you are new to IF, get yourself a copy of this book. It will teach you everything you need to know.
The author's presentation is interesting, reasonable, and intelligently explained. If you have tried and failed to lose weight and, most importantly, keep it off, this book is for you. The only thing I would add is that if you choose the most radical--one meal a day (OMAD) and the 23/1 eating window, please follow Kayla's advice and ease into it. I found the most difficult part was to eat enough at one sitting to last for 23 hours. I've never had a problem with not being able to eat enough before.
The single aha moment that happened over and over for me was finding out all the various moods and feelings and rationalizations that led me to think I was hungry and to eat something repeatedly during my pre-intermittent fasting 18-hour eating window.
Kayla Cox's YouTube channel--6 Miles to Supper--really tells it all and is interesting and educational. Give this program a try!
