Kayla Cox is a Northeast Georgia native who ran off to Camp Pendleton, California, at the tender age of 19 to marry her college sweetheart turned United States Marine, J.R. A few years and three kids later, they hit the road in a Class-C RV and visited 37 states. It was on this adventure that she finally penned "The Laid Back Guide to Intermittent Fasting." After two years of full-time traveling, they landed in beautiful Central Florida, where Kayla currently resides amongst the abundant palm trees and house geckos.

When Kayla's not hammering away on her next novel with a cup of coffee in hand, you'll most likely find her curled up with a good book. She is also the creator of Six Miles to Supper, a YouTube channel with over 56,000 subscribers and 6.4 million views, where she shares her experience of losing 80 pounds with intermittent fasting and walking six miles a day and endeavoring to keep it off for the rest of her life.

I am very new to intermittent fasting. I read a couple of other books that weren't helpful or what I was looking for. This book is exactly what I was looking for.

1) Kayla presents am easy, common sense approach to IF. She tells what worked for her, but also encourages the reader experiment and customize their approach to what works for them. Some people might prefer a longer fast like 20:4 or 23:1. Others (like me) might prefer a shorter fast like 16:8 or 17:7. That is the great thing about IF is there are many ways it can be done. She also stresses that you should stick what works. If a 16:8 fast works for you, then there is no reason to change it. I also like that she includes a cheat day and makes allowance. She acknowledges that you will go off plan at times. She discusses how to track your progress, deal with plateaus, not stress about fluctuations, how to stay motivated and how to maintain. She also walks 6 miles a day. But that is what works for her. I also love that her plan is crazy simple. No counting calories, no counting macros or net carbs. No portion control. For me, 16:8 is very doable. The key is to find something YOU can stick with long term. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks is right or wrong. This type of plan is exactly what I need. My personality is very similar to Kayla's. I tried Weight Watchers several years ago. I did lose 60 pounds. But I got sick of tracking everything, calculating points and eating things I didn't want because they were low in Points. I'm not knocking WW. It may be great for someone else, but its not for me. I also don't want anything too restrictive. I know myself well enough to know that low carb or Keto is not sustainable for me long term. I was beginning to think I would never be able to find the right diet for me. I did my first ever fast yesterday. My eating window was 9 to 5 and then I fasted until 9 am this morning. I had a few hunger pangs, but water took care of them. I thought I would have a hard time not snacking. I was surprised how easy it was fasting for 16 hours. Having an 8 hr eating window means that I can switch it around if needed. I prefer toveat supper around 4:30. So a window of 9 to 5 works perfect. I also find that I can eat snacks during the day instead of at night. I also love what Kayla has to say about "Fake" hunger and genuine hunger. If you are new to IF, get yourself a copy of this book. It will teach you everything you need to know.

This book has helped me a lot. I like Kayla and try to watch all of her youtube videos. I have other books also. I like her method and I have already lost 5 pounds in the last couple of weeks. I am also walking on my treadmill. She walks 6 miles. Maybe I will someday. I wholly recommend this book.

I laughed out loud more than a few times. Does everyone with a long history of one diet after another, one exercise regimen after another, go down these same roads the author has gone down? And given up on as non-sustainable for a lifestyle. Like my experience, some work and some don't but none of them are permanent. Intermittent fasting--and OMAD in my case--do work. The results start immediately. The adjustments to this prescription take about a week. The results begin as soon as you put the program into practice.

The author's presentation is interesting, reasonable, and intelligently explained. If you have tried and failed to lose weight and, most importantly, keep it off, this book is for you. The only thing I would add is that if you choose the most radical--one meal a day (OMAD) and the 23/1 eating window, please follow Kayla's advice and ease into it. I found the most difficult part was to eat enough at one sitting to last for 23 hours. I've never had a problem with not being able to eat enough before.

The single aha moment that happened over and over for me was finding out all the various moods and feelings and rationalizations that led me to think I was hungry and to eat something repeatedly during my pre-intermittent fasting 18-hour eating window.

Kayla Cox's YouTube channel--6 Miles to Supper--really tells it all and is interesting and educational. Give this program a try!

This book set me on a new path to health, weight loss and peace of mind. Many of the notions I had about fasting were in my way and this book cleared them out of my way. I’ll read it again and keep it near by.

This is a great little book and I love the author's podcast. It's helped me so much! The method described here may not work for everyone, but the author is honest about that. The underlying idea is more about self discipline without beating yourself up or making it harder than it needs to be and keeping track of your data so you can see what works for you and what hinders you. For example, by using her tracking methods, I've seen that lack of sleep makes me much hungrier and that too much alcohol makes me retain water for DAYS. It may be different for you but you won't really know until you analyze it. At the heart of it all, is you can really do this!

I have been listening to Kayla for several months on her YouTube channel. I have chosen to follow several different people giving Intermittent Fasting advice, but she is my favorite. She is real and transparent, reminding her listeners and readers that this is an individual journey. I like that she is kind to herself and others. I bought her book because I have gotten so much out of her videos, and I felt like $10 was a very easy way to support her; I am enjoying it and learning more from her. One of the things that I LOVE about her is she celebrates and promotes other bloggers and YouTubers who share their stories of intermittent fasting. Some of the internet "experts" act like their listeners and followers should ONLY follow them, but she NEVER acts like she is the only voice on this on this topic-in fact, she is quick to give a shout out to all the other people who give advice on this topic. Because of that I follow her the most, but I also learn from others. Her YouTube Success Stories are awesome. Kayla, thanks for being such a positive influence in the lives of so many. While I don't have as much to lose as some, I want to have better control over this aspect of my life. I also feel like I learn a lot more than intermittent fasting, as she shares her struggle and success, working to be a better person each day.

I bought this book out of curiosity. I wanted to be more consistent with IF yet I struggled with making it every day, 7 days a week, and 'clean fasting' like Gin Stephens teaches in her book 'Fast Feast Repeat '. This book spoke to my heart. Gin calls people 'rebels' who can't do it her way. Kayla says it's better to create your own plan (she got this advice for Tim Ferris). I did just that and I already feel like I have my autonomy back:)) if I want milky teas in my fasting window I'm not a terrible person after all! I'm making this lifestyle work for ME. I decided to take weekends off too. This is huge!! I realized that I can be more compliant this way! Tr THANK YOU KAYLA!! I already bought her book about obstacles and how to get past them. So excited to do this.

Kayla Cox epitomises what we all should be doing in the first place, keeping it simple. She is a fine example of someone who has proved that health / fat loss need not be difficult. No meal plans, no calorie counting but great advice from someone who has been through it and succeeded. Totally relatable. Everyone tells you what IF is but no one tells what it actually feels, this book does that. Buy it. Also check her before and after photos online.
