Expensive but necessary
I bought this after being put in a knee immobilizer. That means I had a 8inch horizontal wound down to the bone, that was sutured with 15+ stitches. I was not allowed to bend my knee at all, or it would literally split open.If you’re building a pillow-mageddon, propping your leg up and hoping you do not bend the knee and tear your stitches open just buy it. Every other knee pillow put a bend in my joint. The con is the cost, $68 for a piece of foam is a lot of money, and hence the 4 stars The pro is it works and is the sole product I found, I guess that’s why they can charge what they do.While the pillow doesn’t come with a fabric or PVC cover the foam itself is sturdy and durable. After using this 24/7 for the last 3 weeks there are minimal fatigue crease lines.

My wife has had 2 knee replacements. Did not have a real comfort hold for leg straighten efforts. This does a good job.

My wife found this online and the design seemed well thought and functional. Today is day 6 post surgery and my Physical Therapist came by to help me do exercises and evaluate my progress. He was amazed that my range of motion is already back to zero on the low end. I let him know that most of that had come from using this device, just elevating my leg until the back of the knee was elevated. He had never seen one of these and said it had replaced two or three less comfortable exercises normally used to reach zero. Thank you for a great product that even exceeds the claims on the website!

Just had a second knee replacement. I did not have this foam contraption for my first surgery, a little over a year ago. This thing makes it so easy to keep your knee at a 0% bend (this is not particularly comfortable after a knee surgery - but VERY NECESSARY) and this little foam “pillow” makes it much easier. It also keeps your foot in an upright position which helps greatly with knee comfort.

I have two large pillows underneath is to elevate my foot higher.

I wasn’t sure about this one when I ordered it - but I think it is a game changer (and I speak from experience: recovering without one the first surgery).

Highly recommend.

I refer to this as my “torture pillow”. I am currently pre-TKA but I’ve already lost some extension in the leg so I’m using this preop to help maximize the extension I can get before surgery in hopes that after surgery getting back to full extension will be quicker. It’s no fault of the pillow that my knee hurts during the process so I feel bad for calling it my “torture pillow”. I’m using it on my good (well, not as bad is more like it) leg as well sometimes and it doesn’t hurt at all on that leg. I do find the foam uncomfortable/scratchy on bare skin but use a T-shirt as a pillow case and problem solved.

UPDATE I’m still preop, but after a couple of weeks of using the pillow it no longer hurts. At first I could not use if for even 15 minutes without severe discomfort but now I can use it for an hour straight no problem with only slight discomfort. Seems to be working to regain extension in my knee!

POSTOP UPDATE I am just shy of six weeks post TKA. Using the pillow for more than a minute at a time has been very painful and challenging, but I have worked my way up to 10 minutes (albeit uncomfortable minutes) and plan to keep working on it. The pillow really helps me get into a stable position to work on my knee extension and I would recommend it to anyone needing to improve their knee extension. I will update again in another few weeks or so.

ANOTHER UPDATE just over 3 months postop and it is getting less and less uncomfortable and my leg straightens pretty well. When I’m sitting on the ground with my leg straight out in front of me (without the ZDKP), I still can’t contract the front of my leg hard enough to lift my heel off the ground like I can with my non-surgical leg. I’m hoping continued use of the ZDKP (as well as my strengthening exercises) helps to achieve that. Will do another update in another few months.

Comfortable and easy to use for post-op extension. Heel opening is a huge plus.

Bought this pillow to help my knee keep zero degrees for post operative. I love how it holds the heel so it also helps keep your leg straight. I would definitely recommend this pillow if you are anticipating a knee replacement.

First and foremost, I only leave negative reviews when things have gone horribly wrong with purchases. I’m sure after reading so many shining reviews - that this pillow does actually benefit some one. I read one user say it was a good kind of pain when he first used the pillow. There was nothing good about the pain I experienced -it felt like someone injecting the backside of my knee with boiling water. I even re-reviewed instructions and did everything to a “T” but the pain was horrific no matter how long or little I used the pillow. I have been athletic for as long as I can remember and had a few muscle and ligament strains. That is the only way I can describe what I felt when using the pillow - it caused the same repetitive pain in the ligaments in the back of my knee as I’ve had with a severe strain. It was bad enough that it caused walking difficulty for over 2weeks and slowed down my physical therapy. After my pt specialist noticed me pausing and rubbing the back of my knee- they checked the knee and said it definitely was inflamed and to stop using the pillow ASAP. I could not walk very far/long without feeling like the ligaments in the back side of my knee were literally on fire. It literally took weeks to get the inflammation under control. I guess after reading the reviews I expected more from the product -especially at this price point - it really was disappointing to spend this much money and only get to use the product a few times. I purchased all of the products I needed ahead of knee replacement surgery so regretfully it was too late to return this pillow by the time I had my bad experience. I’m giving the pillow one star because it was delivered in a timely manner.

I gave 3 stars only because I feel it is overpriced for what you get. It could be a lot firmer. When I place a leg weight proximal to my knee it feels too soft. If cost is not a concern it is ok. Foam yoga roller would do the same thing. Just not as comfortable.
