Can friendship get them through the struggles of war?

1940, Liverpool: Alice Turner and her best friend, Millie Markham, work for the war effort at Rootes munitions factory, making shell caps and Halifax bombers. Alice’s sweetheart Terry is home from the front for a brief period of leave. She’s been in love with him since school, and the women are excitedly planning a whirlwind wedding.

But the honeymoon is soon over. Terry must go back to the dangers of Nazi-occupied France, and the ever-present air raid sirens quickly bring Alice back down to earth. When a terrible explosion at the factory leads to a tragic death, Millie receives devastating news, and a loved one is announced missing in action, the heartbreak of war is suddenly all too real.

Alice must believe Terry will make it home to keep up her strength. Her mother and Millie need all her support, and morale at the factory is at an all-time low.

Can Alice and Millie help one another make it through these dark times, even as the war stretches on with no sign of an ending?

The Factory Girls of Lark Lane is a heart-wrenching family saga about women in World War 2, the strength of friendship, and hope. If you’re a fan of Nadine Dorries, Diney Costeloe and Kitty Neale, you’ll love Pam Howes!

Pam Howes was born in Cheshire. She is an ex Interior Designer who began writing seriously in the mid nineties. The idea for her first novel, set in the sixties, was inspired by her time as a teenager, working in a local record store and hanging around with musicians who frequented the business. That first novel evolved into a series set in the fictional town of Pickford, based on her home town of Stockport. Three Steps to Heaven; 'Til I Kissed You; Always On My Mind; Not Fade Away, and That'll Be The Day, follow the lives and loves through the decades of fictional Rock'n'Roll band The Raiders. Pam is a big fan of sixties music and it's this love that compelled her to write the series. A stand-alone true-life romance, Fast Movin' Train, set in the nineties, was published in early 2012. Pam is mum to three adult daughters, grandma to seven assorted grandchildren, and roadie to one musician partner.

Pam recently signed a second contract with the award winning publisher Bookouture and the first novel in her new Lark Lane series, The Factory Girls of Lark Lane, will be published in July 2018.

Her first series for Bookouture - The Mersey Trilogy - is available in E book, paperback and as audio books.

This book held my attention throughout the whole book. It was so interesting to follow the girls through the war. I like that the book was not sugar coated and actually talked about war times. I think it also did a good job of making us realize that during war and peace time there are rules that must be followed or very serious consequences can result. I felt that book had happy, sad, and feel good moments throughout.

Another book to help get through the "stay at home" edict of the Carona virus decision makers, Factory Girls was an excellent means of maintaining my sanity while kept at home....I mean how much house keeping can one do?

Interesting. Showed how the women took over working the factories why the men were on the front lines while waiting to here from their husbands and boyfriends. Also the heartbreak of losing loved ones in battle.

Your storytelling brings forth the caring; loving and giving and shows how important families and friends are in desperate times of war. The characters are intriguing and compelling with their lives being torn apart, yet strongly held together by the true hearts of friends and neighbors. Really enjoyed your storytelling immensely and completely captivated me. Can't wait for the next book!!!!

Loved loved loved this book actually I read all of the Lark Lane books. I am originally from the UK but live in USA now and when I read these books the wording in the books took me back to the UK, so many words (slang words) that I myself used to say made me smile while reading them. The book got me so gripped I couldn’t wait to read the next and then the next. Must read you will love them.

I have a fascination with all things related to WW2, I don't know why, but I'm not complaining! I feel saddened that I no longer have family members to listen to their shared tales. I really enjoyed this book, a first for me by this author and I have purchased The Shop Girls on Lark Lane as I'm excited to hear more about them. I love how the majority of people pull together and help one another even though they're suffering sadness and hardship themselves at times. I believe that it's true especially within the Scouse community, they're caring people, people. I loved this story which has everything to keep you wanting to quickly turn the pages, it drew me in and I felt that the characters were real and that I was there with them, such as Pam's excellent portrayal of them. I loved Freddie, the supervisor of Rootes munitions factory, where Alice and her best friend Millie work, he had so much respect for his employees and such a caring nature, also Granny Lomax for whom nothing was too much trouble and Alice, her spirit to keep on and the love for her family never wavered, despite her working two jobs and looking after her family. I thought that the parts regarding dementia were very sensitively written and all of the plots so well thought out, there weren't any parts that I felt were rushed or unfinished. I took to YouTube 😀 to look up some of the old music and really enjoyed listening to it. Overall this book has everything; a great story, a fabulous mix of characters, accurate historical facts and it covered sensitive matter with empathy. I highly recommend and look forward to the next two books in this series and other work from Pam Howes. 10 stars ⭐ ,worth much more than the max 5 that I can give it. Thank you x

Right from the very start I was hooked. And further and further in it became more absorbing
Following Alice and the events right from the start, her mother, her boyfriend and by 33% the dramas that were contained so far, held me, gripped me, I couldn’t put it down – I won’t list the dramas as I don’t want to give anything away but oh Gosh. How Pam Howes was able to describe these war time happenings must have taken a lot of research and/or pure intuition!!!
39% I had a feeling about something now to see if I am right or wrong!!! 52% in still wondering if I am right!!! Lots of things going on in-between, this is one fascinating absorbing read! 82% please don’t let happen what I am thinking. I will not do spoilers so I won’t give away my thinking or the end results
I had to stay awake late to finish
All I am now going to say is READ IT, it is a non put downable book
