I’ve been searching for a reissue of this album for some time now as it’s long out of print and I just happened across it on Amazon and bought it without a second thought! It’s one of Ronstadt’s classics with songs like “That’ll Be The Day”, “Crazy”, “Give One Heart”, and the haunting “Someone To Lay Down Beside Me “, plus 8 other great songs on it! If you’re a Ronstadt fan, it’s a must have for your collection. And if you appreciate her more recent Spanish language works, I believe this includes her first Spanish tune, “La Sienna Mi Vida”! Backed up by her former backup band, now known as The Eagles, it’s an excellent piece of historic Ronstadt. Highly recommend it, if it’s still available!

HASTEN DOWN THE WIND is a triumph for Ronstadt from beginning to end. It follows PRISONER IN DISGUISE and runs circles around that album which many considered the best of her career. For me, it is this one. Ronstadt has always been a superb interpreter of the true emotional experience in a song and HASTEN could easily be considered a concept album. It follows the raw and heartwrenching emotions involved in longing for love and trying to let go of lost love. Ronstadt holds nothing back and her vocals soar and caress each track with soul be it a true acoustic track or a full on rocker. The recording of this album must have left her raw for she fully inhabits every track.

My favorites are the plaintive TRY ME AGAIN and hauntingly beautiful acoustic title track. The Karla Bonoff tracks are all winners and exsquisite tracks for Ronstadt to do her magic. LOSE AGAIN, SOMEONE TO LAY DOWN BESIDE ME and the superb IF HE'S EVER NEAR allow Linda to totally shine. There is no filler on this album. She was in her true prime at the time of this recording and rather than rest on her laurels she took many chances with songs that stretched the boundaries and tested her true skills at such emotional material and really crossed the lines of styles from rock to soulful pop and even country with CRAZY.

This is honestly one of my favorite albums of all time and to have it on cd like this superbly remastered is such a gift. I have never experienced a recording with such raw and open emotion. Hearing Linda's superb vocals soar and caress from beginning to end is for me music at its best. Highly recommend.

Linda Roars Like A Windstorm!

This is a classic Ronstadt album, recorded when she was really in her prime, busy cranking out the volume of hits and those seemingly effortless and sometimes facile interpretations of other people's songs, showing just how original an artist she was. Like the legendary Johnny Rivers, who always seemed to have a magical touch for turning other people's work into brilliant covers and best-selling albums, Ronstadt here does a star turn with other people's songs. She shows here just how versatile and eclectic her approach to some interesting material could be. From a raucous hit song like Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" to a sweet and soulful interpretation of Karla Bonhoff's plaintive "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me", Linda pulls out all of the stops, and although the album was panned critically, it was also her first album to go platinum. Well, so much for them pesky critic fellas!
Her fans knew what they liked, and they sure seemed to like this terrific collection of so many different genres gathered under a single tent. The title tune, written by songwriter and performing wildman Warren Zevon, "Hasten down The Wind", is a haunting, powerfully performed song. Then too, Patsy Cline's "Crazy" is powerfully interpreted. "Tattler" and "Try Me Again" are sizzling, as is a well-arranged version of Bonhoff's "Lose Again". She soars with an interpretation of the traditional "Rivers Of Babylon", and a lovely effort at blue-eyed soul with "Give One Heart". My personal favorite here is Tracey nelson's "Down So Low", and of course, "Hasten Down the Wind", a song so reminiscent of the soulful songs on previous albums like "Prisoner In Disguise" and Long, Long. Time". All in all, this is a terrific album and one that is really a showcase for Linda at her very best. Enjoy!

This remaster is stunning. Only Linda's voice can create a chill down my back. My wife and I have seen her in concert several times and she has never disappointed. Simply put, she is the greatest female American singer of all time. I would like to start a grassroots movement to acknowledge her extraordinary contribution to the arts. Linda's voice is magic. I have all of her recordings. I waited a few years to purchase the Spanish albums. I liked the occasional renditions that appeared on several albums, but it wasn't until I purchased the box set that I realized just how beautiful the songs were -- even though I can't understand a word she's saying -- and appreciated the vocal control necessary to perform those songs. I now own every recording she has ever made. Now is the time for this country to acknowledge the greatness of this performer. Her music and voice are timeless. Please petition your Congress-person to hold a special event at the Kennedy Center -- or wherever. Do we have to wait until someone is dead or too old to appreciate the tribute? All I know is that Linda has added happiness to my life -- which is what music is really all about. I recall when we saw her in concert at the Tweeter Center in MA, with Marvin Hamlisch conducting the orchestra. She opened with What's New. When she hit the first power note in the middle of the song, I thought I was going to melt into my seat. Her 50th birthday had just passed and my wife yelled out "happy birthday, Linda". Linda graciously acknowledged the greeting. Help me get something going. [...]
