This DVD is an older Hallmark Hall of Fame film. It's based on a true story which Hallmark doesn't do as much anymore.
A young man, growing up with Tourettes, in a time before it was known as that, let alone the behaviors being understood. Things became better when he is finally diagnosed properly and Tourettes more known. He's an amazing, well respected 2nd grade teacher. I love that the DVD includes extras about Tourettes and interviews with the real man and his mother and father. Truly inspiring film.

"Hallmark Hall of Fame" generally means excellence, and this presentation is no exception. It's about a kid named Brad Cohen who grows up with Tourette's syndrome, which the narrator calls his "best friend." It's a neurological disorder that makes you jerk and/or make noises uncontrollably. (The swearing kind is very rare.) Brad's father treats him like he's broken and tries to discourage him from becoming a teacher. But Brad had a school principal who believed in him, and a teacher is all he wants to be -- the kind of teacher he never had. This is a true story, and it's inspirational. Not just because a kid with Tourette's made something of himself. Mainly it's because of the passion Brad Cohen had to never give up trying, and the kind of teacher he became. It's also heartwarming, because Brad's father comes around toward the end of the movie, and they repair their relationship. This is a move that every fledgling teacher should watch.
