Ki in Daily Life Paperback – June 19, 2001

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 76 ratings

Technology today touches nearly every part of our lives. Through even more impressive development of machines, the process continues. Computers put men out of work; pushing a single button is enough to start a nuclear war.
Gradually, though, the world has begun to remember that it is man for whom the machines must work, and not the other way around. We recognize now that science, for all its achievements, has done little to help us understand ourselves or realize our potential.
There is no sense in waiting for science to do it for us. Each of us must now take it upon himself to understand his true nature and strength. The Chinese classic "Saikontan" says that we stand like beggars at the gate, forgetting the infinite power given us by the universe. Instead of shrinking from this potential, we should be thankful for it. we should strive to manifest it and help others to do the same.
The author regards his Four Basic Principles to Unify Mind and Body as having been given to him by the universe to spread the way of the universe. There have been many who have grasped unification of mind and body. Very few, however, could teach it. Fewer still could teach how to teach it. Those who learn the four basic principles as explained in this book have come to understand not only how to unify their own minds and bodies, but also how to teach it to others.
The author, founder of the Ki Society International, presents the philosophical groundwork and specific disciplines by which the individual may attune himself or herself with the hi-life energy of the universe and thrive in health and harmony, without fatigue or depression.

Hi everyone,

I'm a very big fan of Koichi Tohei Master.
I'm inspired of his Ki theory so that i've collected many books of him.

Ki in Daily Life is one of his best book (and most popuplar). I hope i can go to japan another day and join in Ki Society. That's my big dream.

If you are interested in Koichi Tohei Master, i recommend to buy this DVD:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002MC5LMG/universalmind-22

(You should know Japanese to watch that DVD).

I have some disadvantages so that i can't buy it. If anyone has it, please share a review with us.

Good day,

Anh,

I practiced Shin Shin Toitsu Ki-Aikido for over 30 years and this book about KI is a great introduction to the concept of KI (Chi in Chinese) and can really help with many of life's challenges! It can also help a great deal if you're into any sports because using these principles you can definitely increase your accuracy and sustainability!

This book opens your mind to many life altering concepts. Being a practitioner and teacher of Kokikai Aikido, the concepts are fundamental to my training as well. This book can help anyone struggling with the stresses of daily life in this modern age. We all live in a fast paced society that keeps us from breathing, relaxing, and finding our center. This book teaches the importance of positive mind and how to achieve it.

After years of Aikido training I reached the conclusion that Japanese cannot articulate their thoughts about KI simply because, in so doing, they would have to admit that all the KI "stuff" comes from China. Even in this book Tohei sensei talks about positive and negative energy because he eventually doesn't want to use the terms Yin and Yang. This having said, this book offers an interesting perspective about the body energy as it is envisioned by Japanese. Tohei sensei reportedly is a man with immense KI. He is the only Great Master who received the 10th dan from O Sensei M. Ueshiba.
In conclusion, if you want a Japanese perspective on KI, buy it. If you are a beginner and want to get started on your inner energy cultivation, I strongly suggest you to buy "Opening the Energy Gates of your Body" By Kumar Frantzis. If you are experienced in this field ... well you already know what you want to do.

This book is full of applicable wisdom and has the potential to change lives. Sensei Koichi Tohei was a brilliant teacher and an innovative pioneer in his own right.

I like this companion book. You shouldn't have one without the other. Perhaps the publisher will combine them into a master reissued copy. Nope! That means, less money. Great book.

This is the original and the go-to book for Tohei's Ki scripture. You will need to read and practice what's in the book many many times. Then do it again many many times, however it's the knowledge and insight that is revealed from practice taught by the book does one feel the benefits of Ki in daily life.

`Ki in Daily Life' is a wonderful book by Koichi Tohei explaining the principles and development of Ki and how to apply it in your daily life. It goes through step by step in ways of developing good Ki and focuses on breathing method as well. In the second section it looks at ways of applying what you've learnt as you sleep, get up, eat, move, speak and more besides. It also has chapters with guidelines for those learning how to develop Ki, as well as for those teaching. This has clear photography and the writing is easy to read in one sitting, as well as being easy to regularly refer back to. I bought this book to help with my Aikido practise, but you could easily use it on it's own and do not need to practise a martial art to benefit. This is a short, but insightful book from an inspirational Sensei.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
