With no help in sight, could you make the hard choices? After risking everything, Grant and Leah Walton are finally reunited. But it’s no happy ending. As the reality of the situation dawns on their neighbors, the Waltons find themselves the subject of more than idle curiosity. Not everyone can be trusted. People they counted as friends now look at them with suspicion and fear. Faced with neighbors determined to take all they have, Grant and Leah prepare to leave. But strangers have other plans. If someone threatens all that you hold dear, could you fight back? In a world without enforcement, rules mean nothing. When a band of thieves turn a neighborhood disagreement into an all-out war, Grant and Leah must find the strength to not only fight, but survive. Not everyone will make it. The attack is only the beginning. Survive The Panic is book three in Nuclear Survival: Southern Grit, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people struggling to survive after a nuclear attack on the Unites States plunges the nation into chaos.

Good story line. Characters who wanted to rule at any expense to others. Brutal & greedy. Good endings for the bad guys but a few good guys had to be sacrificed, too. Open for the next story.

I do understand most people nowadays are sheep, but I still get frustrated at the length of time it takes for people to wise up. That said, the story is exciting and full of action, I look forward to the continuation.

Excellent adventure and fast paved action is non-stop. I love the main characters and find them to be awesome. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.

Damned good read. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Grant Walker finally making it home and finding Leah his wife. Right now Oliver a nerdy geeky neighbor and friend is at his front door.

The Community he lives in isn't on his side about anything. He and Leah have guns, ammo and food. Grant has a run in with Greg his biggest detractor. A blow hard who wants to be in charge. A Grant who couldn't care less who's in charge. He has and will go his own way.

Leah is a nurse and is of the mindset that she has to help her neighbors. The first person she runs into is Greg. A Greg who quickly informs her he doesn't need her help so Leah goes on her way. Some of the houses are empty and no one really wants to speak with her. That's when she spots Greg's two boys trying to steal a propane tank from Susie another neighbor. Leah is armed with an air rifle and gets the tank back. She tells Grant what happened. Grant isn't surprised one bit and is fast coming to the conclusion that his neighbors are sheep easily swayed by the belligerent Greg.

That night someone sets the pick up that Leah drove home on fire. Its one of the few working vehicle they have and Grant knows right away who set it on fire. Greg.

Dan is another neighbor and this guy is a friend. He, Leah, Susie, Oliver and Grant attend a meeting to which they hadn't been invited. A man named Will is in charge. He's telling everyone to make a list of what provisions they have and they will all be collected at the meeting house so all can share. Leah asks questions and doesn't get very good answers. She is fast becoming aware that her neighbors are sheep just waiting for someone to tell them what to do. No way will Grant or Leah give up what they have to anyone.

Once home Grant tells his friends and Leah that he thinks its time for them to leave. None of them want to leave. Leah is still convinced she can help and Susie says she has a garden and Grant tells her she won't be able to keep anything. Everything will be given over to the community.

Grant finally gets his way and he and Dan head out to find working vehicles at a used car lot about twenty minutes away. While they are gone Greg comes to the door and demand Leah open up so they can inspect and take everything. Leah talks him into waiting a half hour. Thirty minutes later Greg and his three men come back only to be interrupted by the arrival of a huge truck and six men. Men who want every gun in the community and anything else they can take.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has Grant, Leah, Dan, Susie, Greg, a Greg who will be killed, the masked raiders, a Grant and Dan who get back just in time, four dead raiders, a Grant who now has a truck, a Grant and his crew who load up, one of the neighbors who asks Grant who is going to defend them all now, a Grant who tells him he couldn't care less but it isn't going to be him, Grant and the others who pull out with the pick up and a car loaded with all their supplies and gear, the group that stops at a motel in Marietta and Grant who is ex Army using every skill he has to protect those with him to, stay alive and survive and a Leah who finds out she's a survivor. A Leah who is changed by death, wounds and a good husband. A Leah who will never doubt herself again nor will she hesitate to defend her self.

This author works for credibility! His characters are likable, strong in adversity and responsible as they struggle to adjust to this fearful new world. Their skills provide them with a good enough background and they work hard to survive repeated assaults from all around them. You find yourself cheering them on, hoping that they can carve out a future for themselves.

Really enjoyed the read. Hated the part where Oliver, Dan and Susie died. Will there be more chapters to follow with trip to Canada.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm torn on this one: it should really be a 5 star/2 star.
Reviewed in Canada on February 2, 2021
Spoiler alert: The story was good, nail-biting, although there was confusion at the end regarding which vehicle the characters were taking to get refueled, first it's the truck that's almost out of gas, then they're driving the Buick, then they climb up into the cab, etc. The bigger issue: I did not like the ending. Stories where almost everyone dies in the end are a real downer, especially when those characters are described like family. This one...as the death toll mounted, I was unsure as to whether anyone would come out alive. As well written as the book was, it left a nasty taste in my mouth. I'd like to give it a 5 for most of the story and a 2 for the ending.

I usually give this lady 5 stars but I couldn’t because of the last battle/encounter. I know he had to save his wife....but the practical side of me says he would have done something else. Read it and see what you think...it’s still a great book in a great five star series. Ok, I’m giving it 5 stars :)
