Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr. Marquardt's strategies to becoming a learning organization are easily applicable in the corporate setting. If your aim is to develop a learning organization that gains insights into the ever-growing customer expectations, Building the Learning Organization will facilitate your journey.―Simon Reese, Global Revenue Management Advisor, ExxonMobile Lubricants & Specialties

This book clearly shows why becoming a learning organization is no longer a choice but a necessity. The real bonus, however, is that it then goes on to detail the practical steps to make it happen.―
Clive Watkins, Principal Management Development Consultant, The Management Centre, London

Organizations have enjoyed unprecedented success in driving sustainable employee engagement through action learning.―
Florence Ho, Senior Lecturer, School of Professional Education & Executive Development, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong

Once thought a fad twenty years ago, Marquardt makes a compelling case that organizational learning is here to stay.―
Hallie Preskill, Executive Director, FSG, Strategic Learning and Evaluation Center

Building the Learning Organization has something significant to offer both the researching scholar and practicing CEO. Michael has done an excellent job of highlighting the five subsystems required to create and sustain a learning organization. Most importantly, he has described the complex set of interactions between these subsystems, which should assist organizational leaders with the challenge of how to create a learning organization.―J. Mike Stice, CEO, Chesapeake Midstream Partners

Building the Learning Organization is a must-read for researchers, consultants, business practitioners, and anyone who wants to see their organization run faster than their competitors. This book contains both theoretical and practical insights, providing a balanced perspective of what it takes for an organization to learn.―Roland K. Yeo, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior & International Business, Kuwait Maastricht Business School

Please, please, please review this book when I return it!!! At the end of chapter 5, the book starts over from the beginning. Ironically, the assignment I rented this book for ... that I'm trying to write now ... is based on CHAPTER 6 AND 7! The book itself is in great condition. It was so nice, it was printed twice. Just not helpful for chapters 6-9 (insert crying emoji here)I uploaded the table of contents, page 118 (end of chapter 5 - look at the thickness of the book), the very middle showing page 118 and the one page in-between, and the end of chapter 5 again ... end of the book

Michael Marquardt does a great job organizing information into an easy to follow flow. However, I highly recommend starting your study of Organizational Learning with Peter Senge's "The Fifth Discipline." Senge's book is much more philosophical and deep, providing many insights that are more thoroughly explored and explained. If you need more structure after reading Senge's work, then turn to Marquardt.
