This completely revised and updated edition of
Reinventing Yourself, the motivational classic by inspirational author Steve Chandler, features several new chapters, including:
  • What to Do about Your Money Fears
  • Your Career Played as a Game vs. Your Career as a Grind for Survival
  • How Much Ego Do You Need to Succeed?
  • The Hidden Downside of Winning Friends and Influencing People
  • Do You Need a Life Coach or Should You Just Wing It?
  • Does Success Make You Happy or Does Happiness Make You Successful?
You'll learn numerous techniques for breaking down negative barriers and letting go of the pessimistic thoughts that prevent you from fulfilling, or even allowing yourself to conceive of, your goals and dreams.

Chandler's new edition also tunes, polishes, and strengthens the many popular and inspiring chapters from previous editions of this book, making them even more useful and relevant in today's rapidly changing, globalized world.

The old psychological models that focused on past hurts and traumatic memories have given way to exciting new breakthroughs, like Dr. Martin Seligman's work on post-traumatic strength and Dr. George Pransky's work on human beings' innate resilience and well-being. No more fixating on psychic wounds that occurred in childhood. Chandler's new revision looks at the work of both of those pioneers and makes optimism available to people who never believed they could reinvent their old ways of being.

If I could gift this to every single person I know, I’d probably go bankrupt, but it is something everyone should read to change their mindset and become owners of the spirit. I love that Steve is so optimistic and focuses on what you SHOULD be doing rather than harp on and on about how things are done wrong (so many other books do that). I have truly changed my entire life thanks to this book. 10/10 would highly highly recommend it!!

I would give this book 20 stars if I could. Steve makes the practice of becoming the person that you want to be so simple. What more could someone ask for?! No fluff!

Thank you for changing my life.

January of this year I tried to take my life. Hows that for an opening sentence? But really I did, I still don't know exactly why I got to that point, but I do know what got me to that point. Victim thinking or the victim mentality. I was a victim, it's ll I ever knew! I grew up in a household full of victims, My mom was 200 pounds overweight, relied on everyone as she never learned how to drive and then blamed all those same people for her existence and misery. My dad was the silent victim, not verbally expressing himself but living in silent defeat. Victim hood was my birthright and I milked all of it. At first victim hood is great, everyone pities you, but then it starts to get old and people start not responding like they did. you become pathetic really. and that's where I was. My life and what was happening to me was everyone else's fault, My parents for not raising me different, my wife's for getting sick, my in laws for not understanding me, etc, etc, pitiful etc...
And that's where this book came in, and to be frank it was a book I bought years ago and never read, as they say when the student is ready the teacher will come. and my first teacher would be Steve Chandler!
This book changed everything almost instantly. I came to the conclusion while reading this book that my life was my problem,my fault and no one else's. Now that may sound frightening to you, but its not in fact, by reading this book you realize that Ownership is powerful and liberating, by taking full responsibility. You become liberated. To some it sounds very paradoxical, I get it. I didn't like the thought of only blaming myself at first, but by doing so, freedom arises. I don't want to give away much of the teeth in this wonderful gem of a book, but, if you truly want a new life, or need a new beginning or, frankly, improvement of any kind, you must ditch the victim mentality. YOU MUST! if you dont or cant nothing will change. It may get better for a while in the short term but you will always be chasing that life you know deep down is yours. Stop playing small, get this book, read it, reread it, and make the rest of your life, the best of your life.

I never thought of myself as a victim or martyr, but after reading this book realized I was living a very self-defeatist life. There is lots of good advice in there. Some parts may speak to you while others may not, but regardless, it's a quick read and could possibly change your outlook on life as it did with me. I think every parent should read the "honey i shrunk our daughter" chapter to see how you can have good intentions but entirely demotivate and label your child without meaning to.

Edit -- I was about 2/3 done with the book when I posted this review with 5 stars. I now agree with other reviews that the end becomes unstructured and tedious, like he had to throw something in to meet a deadline. But I did learn a lot in the first half of the book, so I'm only dropping it down to 4 stars.

Below you’ll see my earlier review. It really has some amazing points. I still think the author gets a little “fluffy” in his writing at times, but in the end, that does not detract from the insights provided. 3 to 5 stars.

After seeing this book mentioned favorably in another book I am reading, then seeing the positive reviews, I purchased it. While it has some interesting points and observations, thus far I am struggling to see how it is so “life changing”. The book could be half the size if all the fluffy stories were removed or even reduced in size.

Here - I will summarize the book: Be an owner of your life, not a victim. That is pretty much it.

My girlfriend first introduced me to Steve Chandler (SC) through this audio series, as she was trying to ween me off of Tony Robbins (she doesn't like him; long story . .. but I still like him).
The title tends to turn some people off because changing yourself is considered bad in our culture. But what's bad about changing something you don't like about yourself or something that is holding you back from experiencing the juices of life?
A better question than "I gotta be me" and "I don't change" would be: is my current behavior getting in the way of me enjoying certain aspects of my life? Am I dragging other people down with me, including loved ones? If so, do I want to change or keep living half of the life I could be living?
This tapes series contains many subsets . . . not letting other people wound you, taking charge of your life, looking for the things that make you passionate and setting your soul on fire rather than just going through the motions . . . basically, how to live again or intensify how you are already living.
But overall, it's really about taking the old you/parts of the old you . . . that you don't like . .. and changing it to the new you that you care to become.
The real question though is: are you brave enough to admit there's something about you that you wish to change/reinvent? And, if so, are you even braver to walk along the path to make that change in yourself?
Well, are you? :) If so, this knowledge will help you.
