Too many mistakes and wrong answers.
1 Star
Too many mistakes and wrong answers.
Generally I think their products are useful and I used their test prep book for my private pilot license, and it worked out well for me. So I decided to buy their instrument test prep book. Only on the 3rd chapter and already found several mistakes of mismatched answers, or their answers based on completely wrong values (question vs answer explanation). Worried to continue using the book to study.

Purchased in October 2017 and will take my written test in two weeks or 3 months later. I used this in conjunction with Sheppard Air test prep and some online youtube videos. While it prepares you well as I saw with my private by the same writers, it does not go into great detail as I know that questions on the test do. I found that there was much not covered in this book compared to the Sheppard questions but that is not designed to be an explanatory course. This book is.

Nice to get the newest -3F testing supplement which was finally updated by the FAA; better quality text, imagery, and content than the previous versions. I can't compare the actual test prep questions to prior years but I assume it is updated to 2018 as you would expect from ASA. If you're taking the knowledge exam, then the latest version is required - so no sense in worrying over what was updated anyway.

Bought this for my son to study for his IFR rating. Going by his remarks, this is a good study guide. Includes a separate book of "figures," which often have to be consulted (As in, "Looking at figure X, what...?").

I used the ASA test prep (as others have) on my private written in conjunction with using it for my 141 class and it served me well, 92% on FAA written. Let me make this very clear, this book will not get you an A on your instrument written exam. I've spent the last 4 months studying this book, memorizing answers to the point where when I'm asked the question, I know if the answer is A B or C before i hear the whole question. I just took my instrument written and got a 78%. Of the 60 questions, i would say that about half of them are either slightly different than questions in this book or just not at all relevant. I was very disappointed when i took the test and would recommend Sheppard air as the administrator suggested that i use that as people using it consistently score in the 90's. I will use Sheppard air for my CFII written. Do not buy this book if you want a good score.

There are at least three errors per chapter. Double check the legends and figures it tells you to refer to.

I used this to prep for my instrument knowledge exam and it was very, very helpful. Clear explanations take you deeper into each question should there be any confusion..

4.0 out of 5 stars INST
