I'm currently on my family medicine rotation and have used this almost daily to study from or as a quick reference. It is concise and well written as a good reference should be.

If you are looking for a case based book this won't be of much use to you. The book is broken up into symptoms. If you want to look up something on hypertension, you turn to that chapter. It lists common diagnoses/complaints, differentials, basic pathophysiology, treatments and background information for every single one. It's by no means a comprehensive reference but it's got everything you absolutely must know about a given subject.

My only complaint is the size; this book could be made a bit thicker and scaled down to smaller dimensions for a white coat pocket, exponentially increasing it's utility. Right now it's about the size of an iPad and really only suited for my bag which isn't always in easy reach.

Great little book. This book packs a big punch, highlighting how patients are most likely to present, their H&P, labs to run and treatment. Each chapter is one or two pages, but its all high yield. There are 1 or two little practice tests at the end to help gauge your understanding. Great little resource.

I give this 3 stars because I read it after Case Files - Family medicine which covers everything in this book in a much more succinct manner and provides much better charts and diagrams for learning. There is quite a bit of fluff especially in the first half of the book. Unless you require a review of the most basic aspects of medicine, your time would be better spent studying pediatrics or OBGYN in preparing for the Shelf exam.

Each chapter is very short and gives you a brief overview of every aspect of the given topic (pathophys., treatment. Etc.). This series assumes that you know lots about these topics before you open the book, so it may mention something that you haven't heard or thought about in a very long time with no refresher information at all. Good quick reference book. Don't use this as a primary source for learning!

This is a great reference book or review book. I used it to study for my NBOME shelf exam and passed with flying colors. It's great. Lots of practice questions (100) to help you study the material in the back.

Blueprints are very helpful for reviewing for boards or rotations. Not comprehensive, but hits the high points and can be very helpful.

Thorough text - good questions with thorough explanations. Up to date guidelines and information. Good for shelf studying.

Much too brief and broad to be helpful. Simply page after page of real broad information. Definitely not useful for any serious studying.
