I am using this book to teach a physical science course for 8th and 9th grade homeschoolers, and I have to say I am surprised at all of the negative reviews. I have a feeling many may have been written by homeschooling parents who are trying to use this book to teach their children at home, but don't have a science background themselves. I agree that that probably would not be very easy to do...this is a serious science textbook, aligned with national standards, and it probably would be necessary to have someone who has been down the road before to help the students navigate the unfamiliar material. I specifically chose this book, though, over some of the others more popular in the homeschooling community, because it is so thorough. Some science books that are considered "easy to use," quite frankly, do not prepare the students for college-level science, or even prepare them to do well on the SAT subtests or other standard markers of high school-level science education. This one does.

The corresponding lab manual, additionally, is fabulous, but it likewise requires some more serious glassware and chemicals than would be commonly found in a household kitchen. But, the experiments, IMO, prepare the students far better for further scientific studies than some of the "easier" inquiries I've seen in other popular books. All in all, a great series for a motivated student, preferably with the help of a confident teacher or a parent who is prepared to work alongside them.

The intention was good to provide a science book with and biblical explanation but this is like studying two subjects at the same time and the text is very difficult to understand. I have a college education and i really have to pay attention every sentence and word in order to understand the lesson. My 8th grader finds this book very frustrating and difficult to understand. The lesson review questions are convoluted and confusing.

STAY AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN!
While the info in this book in decent, the questions are horrible!!! They are nearly impossible to understand and the answers in the teacher text are even worse.
Ex. Q: What is the significance of the sign of velocity in one-dimensional motion?
A: The sign indicates the direction of the velocity vector in relation to the positive or reference direction of the coordination axis used to measure motion.

Very confusing textbook to teach, let alone for young minds to try and grasp. I found this material very frustrating and difficult to understand. (Whoever wrote this has obviously no concept of a 9th-grade student's level of understanding) Avoid at all cost - it takes the fun and excitement out of science and makes it all about struggling through difficult text and complex problems.
