Editorial Reviews
Review
"[Wolfe s] latest work is a state-of-the-art compendium of cochlear implant literature and supersedes his first publication. I particularly enjoyed the section on how to define the electro-acoustic boundary depending on different frequency allocation approaches. Also of interest is the section on the increased likelihood of obtaining electrical stapedial reflex thresholds with higher probe tone frequencies [...]
With the help of just four collaborators, Wolfe delivers a compelling and up-to-date overview of the field. This book may soon be regarded as the handbook of cochlear implant knowledge and I anticipate it will be used regularly to guide clinical practice."

As a longtime (35+ year) Electrical Engineer in the audiologic engineering discipline, there are Very Few Audiologists I would count as Electrical Engineering colleagues: Jace is one of the four, maybe five, audiologists in the world who can understand signals & systems.
FULL DISCLAIMER: I have not yet bought the book; but knowing Jace, it's been well–vetted by engineers before it went to press; and when I start to work with CI's again, I'll buy it.
One Minor Issue .NOT. Jace's fault: There are actually FOUR major CI manufacturers (five if you count the garbage Nurotron from China, sold only in the Third World): For several years, Oticon Medical (which purchased France's Neurelec) has had the CE marque from TÜV (EU, UK, Canada, etc… Sorta like a combination of UL & FDA) for their 20–channel CI with an outstanding front end; but FDA clinical trials which were supposed to start at the beginning of 2020 have been postponed at least 18 months due to SARS–CoVid–19. Because of this, Jace hasn't had any hands–on experience with those devices… But I'm rather sure the 2nd edition of the book will address this issue.
Hence, I'm throwing the caution flag to non–US buyers, especially if their clinic is in a country which recognizes the CE marque.

I think that there could be hundreds of pages shaved off of this book without taking away from the content. The quality of the book is very high and it is likely the most thorough source available for all things CI, but outside of students I'm not really sure who will need it. I don't know of many Au.Ds that work with all three companies so this book may be rather superfluous for most practicing Au.Ds.
