My daughter has Tourette's, which has both an OCD component and an anxiety/worry component to the disorder (as well as other aspects). We first purchased from this author the book on Worry and used it during her sessions aloud with her psychologist. It was WONDERFUL and really helped her UNDERSTAND the worry bully, which is so important once kids reach an age of concrete understanding. But when we saw that the same author had written a book on OCD, we were VERY excited to take it to our daughters sessions and begin work right away! The wording in the book is absolutely perfect for the older child and preteen age group in a way that I've not seen written before. There are many resources for parents, and several resources for very young (5 year old) kids, and many resources for older teens. But this was an age group that didn't have many resources to begin their own self-understanding of what was going on with their own thoughts and bodies in relationship to OCD and then what to do about it. This book taught ME so much about this also!!! And also how to word it and THEN HELP my daughter. The psychologist had not received information flyers about these books and so she is now recommending this author's books to other families in her practice. I highly recommend this book for any parent and child with Tourettes with and OCD component or OCD alone. Please let me know what you think also! Angie E.

This is a wonderful book for not only for kids but adults as well, written in a charming style. . I am a psychotherapist with a specialty in child/adolescent treatment. I do not specialize in cognitive-behavioral treatment, which is what people with OCD usually need, but when I began seeing children with PANDAS, sudden onset of OCD and/or tics associated with strep, I found this book. It is a wonderful guide that helps people start to feel a sense of strength and control in talking back to OCD. I have used it with older patients, just explaining that while it was written for younger kids, it is very sound and can be enormously useful to them in conquering their OCD. Patietnts have the experience of changing their brain and not feeling at the mercy of its dysfunctioning.

medication; try this instead.

I used it with an 11 year old girl who had become dangerously anorexic. Had she not improved she would have had to be hospitalized. She had obsessive-compulsive thoughts about chewing and swallowing foods with certain textures or colors. It took two weeks of use before there was any detectable change but when it began, it took off like a rocket, She is no longer anorexic.

This is the best OCD book ever and not just for kids. When my daughter developed OCD suddenly, we urgently wanted books for our whole family. We read this book first with my daughter and it explained OCD in such a wonderful way as to really understand the causes, and provided good tools to try to manage/overcome the compulsions. My wife and I started using the examples in the book that night when our daughter would have her episodes. They seemed to be the only rational ideas we could give her without making her get more upset. I still can't get her to name the little furry OCD monster though. :)

When I started reading the three other adult books on OCD, most of it was filled with so much unnecessary detail and tried to keep things so general, or incorporate so many different types of OCD, that they were difficult to read and understand. I am educated (Master's Degree), so it is definitely the way the books were written and not that they are just above my reading and comprehension level.

Our whole family would highly recommend this book to adults, children, relatives, and basically anyone looking to understand OCD.

This is a good book to simplify the concept of OCD for your child. Even though it focuses on some of the more common forms of OCD and didn't specifically target my child's compulsions/rituals, it helped explain a lot about OCD for her. A great starting point for kids to start taking control of their OCD. She's 10 and recently diagnosed. I've caught her re-reading through this workbook and am hoping she starts practicing "Talking Back" to her OCD soon.

I bought this book for my 10 year old daughter who is dealing with some OCD. She briefly started it the night before on her own and told me. So we spent about 20 min reading it together while she did the exercises just before bed. Turns out instead of going to bed she finished the book. I think it gave her a good paradigm to understand the obsessive thoughts and fears she has been dealing with. Of course, having some tools and suggestions are helpful but I feel like in her case, reading a book and understanding that she is not the only child dealing with OCD was helpful. It is too early to tell if the tools will really work but just by the way she couldn't put the book down, it was worth the investment. AND as a parent, I found it helpful to go back and read what her concerns and thoughts are from her point of view.

This book is fantastic for adults and children alike, thank you so much. It offers practical, helpful and realistic advice which can be put into practise. I have bought this for several members of my family who have all found it extremely valuable and useful. My nephew has an autism spectrum condition and chronic OCD at present. I have purchased this book for his mom to work through with him to help his OCD rituals. He wants to use this book with his mom in order to help himself, which is fantastic news as they have been really struggling with this horrendous condition. I would definitely recommend this book to others, it's well worth it, as well as the other excellent books in this series.

Thank you very much. Mrs Julia Priestley, Kingswinford.

Anxiety in kids is on the rise - as an educator I see this on the ground, particularly after covid. We all have an amount of anxiety. It's healthy. But sometimes it can either get too much or we just dont know how to manage with the fedlings. This can be especially true for children. Its a skill that needs to be taught, and for some, they need a bit more help than others. Anxiety and worries can be talked about, strategies learned, and confidence built. Dawn Heubner has written a whole series of these - all equally fabulous depending on what the area of need is. Very child friendly but it is important to be done with an adult that's familiarised themself with the book beforehand.
