"Learning to trust is one of life's most difficult lessons. That’s because trust is not a verb; it’s a noun. But what if the real problem is not that we can’t trust other people; it’s that we can’t trust ourselves?"

In this compelling volume, filled with illuminating and heartrendingly powerful stories of broken trust, betrayal, and triumph, Iyanla demonstrates why the four essential trusts—Trust in Self, Trust in God, Trust in Others, and Trust in Life—are like oxygen: without them, none of us can survive. Mastering these four essential trusts requires both a process and a practice: Life gives you the process through your experiences; people provide you the opportunity to practice.

Iyanla explores what trust really is and reveals why some of the most shocking trust violations offer us profound opportunities for personal growth and healing. Her pragmatic trust prescriptions—rooted in self-awareness, intuition, communication, and spiritual practice—will challenge you to face your deepest fears and free you to cultivate new levels of increased authenticity, greater resilience, renewed peace, and joy.

With more than 8 million books in print, Iyanla Vanzant has truly established a dedicated fan base.

Iyanla's path to success took her through a multitude of life-changing experiences that shaped the profound insights she eagerly shares with others. A neglected, overweight, sexually abused child who was shuttled from one family to another, she became a teenage mother on welfare living in the projects of a major urban city. Vanzant took control of her life when she walked out of her second abusive marriage and entered Medgar Evers College in New York and then the City University of New York Law School. She moved to Philadelphia with her children and became a public defender for three years. Then she eventually became an ordained minister, who was committed to a message based on the principles of divine power and self-determination.

Iyanla combined her professional skills with her life's lessons and embarked on a writing and speaking career. Her mass appeal is evident in her overwhelming success as an author. In the Meantime was a #1 New York Times bestseller, where it spent 20 weeks on the list, and she has had numerous other major bestsellers. As a nationally recognized speaker she has sold out such prestigious venues as New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center, Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, Atlanta's Civic Center, and the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. Vanzant is also familiar to the daytime TV audience from her role as a regular contributor on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Acclaimed journalist and producer Barbara Walters recognized Vanzant's extraordinary appeal, seeing in her a "breakaway talent" with the potential for huge success in daytime television. With Walters and partner Bill Geddie on board to executive produce, Buena Vista Productions to develop the show, and Buena Vista Television as distributor, the road to Iyanla was forged.

Vanzant has received numerous accolades for her work. In 1992 Los Angeles mayor Tom Bradley named October 21st "Tapping the Power Within Day" in honor of a workshop she presented in that city for African-American women. In 1994, the National Association of Equal Opportunity in Education, an organization comprised of the presidents and administrators of the 117 predominantly Black colleges in the United States named her Alumni of the Year. She also was awarded an "Oni" by the International Congress of Black Women as one of the nation's unsung heroes, and she served as the national spokesperson for Literacy Volunteers of America in 1998.

In 1999 she was listed among the 100 Most Influential African-Americans by Ebony magazine. Later that year, she was awarded the 31st NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Literary Work, Non-Fiction" for Yesterday I Cried. She also earned her first Honorary Doctorate degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, from the City University of New York, Medgar Evars College. In 2000, she earned her second honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, from the Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, Ebony has named her one of their "55 Most Intriguing People," Vibe magazine tabbed her one of "100 Leaders of the New Millennium" and Newsweek recently included her as one of the "Women of the New Century."

The mother of three and grandmother of four, Vanzant lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband Adeyemi and Mr. Coco, their cat.

This is what I needed in this journey of mine. Iyanla is such a deep spiritual blessing to us all. She will always smack us with the truth first, even when we're not fully functioning with the comprehension at the present moment while in our own conflama. But it turns our level of thinking around, and we begin to see things for what it truly is. Trust has always been a huge area of concern for me. Thank you for deepening my mind and bringing me to this space of realization. Love her books it's worth the read.

Iyanla Vanzant is one of my favorite authors. I saw her on O's Supersoul Sunday and she was talking about this book. I have not begun to delve into the book, as time does not permit. However, I have skimmed it. She is an adept author and has a way of getting her point across in a way that is best for understanding by all readers. The cover and book are all in perfect condition.

I picked up this book because I wanted to tackle my trust issues head on. Like most women who had an absentee father, I had trust issues with men...like most women who have been burned by old friends...I had trust issues with women....and like most sex abuse survivors...I had trust issues in general. Thankfully I have a Husband that understands all of this but I wanted to start working on these issues. This book is the closest thing to a therapy session you will ever get as far as finding out why you don't trust and how to learn to trust. I felt like I was sitting across from Iyanla and she pulled a page out of my secret diary and read it aloud to me. She slapped me upside the head with my own insecurities, she showed me my issues with myself that didn't allow me to trust people...and she kept reiterating the one thing I've been trying to avoid...a true relationship with God. I feel like she truly fixed my life with this book.....and I will reference it over and over again until I have mastered Trust. I am glad I got this in the Kindle version so I can review my highlights anytime online. AMAZING BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if you are not a Christian, this book will hit HOME.

I simply can NOT shout to everyone I know how amazing this book is. How much it has changed my life and the way I live it! I love this woman already but this book helped me see myself for all that I was when it came to trust.
Of course I couldn't trust others. I couldn't trust myself and it helped me see what I needed to change in order to start there.
Her stories are always entertaining when you hear her in person and no different in her book. They help you understand her message and where it fits in your life.
I highlighted and wrote all over this book and recommend it to everyone struggling to trust anyone or anything.
I didn't care the part on Ferguson and the way cops are treating people of color. I completely agree but it was a part I quickly skimmed through and didn't get much out of it. But the rest of book was great and one I keep by night stand.

This is one of the best self improvement books I have read. So much to learn about yourself, God, others and life in general. Makes me understand so many of my past and present choices and possibly the future. This book has been very helpful and I continue to re-read it all the time.

It's so unbelievable how the book depicts EVERYTHING I went thru as a child - even still today; she's picking me apart w/this one. I know This book Trust - story of My Life is the last hurdle leading me into my destiny. As for the writing style : its therapeutic, repetitive at times (maybe purposely i.e., she IS a counselor ) it also chucked full of examples of real-life situations that depict trust issues that the un-skilled would never pick up on... That's why we keep spinning our wheels - going no where.
If you feel like you're stuck, not going anywhere, or in your own way - you MOST LIKELY have trust issues or unforgiveness in your heart. Come on!!! Get it dealt with. I'm telling you this book is releasing my mind from all kinds of bondage.

This book has been such a great opportunity to do self reflection and work. To be accountable and responsible for the boundaries you do and don’t set and they whys behind them. Everyone male and female need to read this especially children. Open the dialogue for communication to happen, understanding and hopefully offering an opportunity to right some wrongs or set better boundaries with self and others. I review this book with my husband, children, almost anyone that is willing and ready to listen.

This was a book i ready cover to cover. I had many “ah ha” moments. It put into perspective on how my lack of trust was creating the outcomes in my life. I now see how I can step by and trust more to create greater happiness in my life.
