"Vocab" words are highlighted, and then a section on the side of the page has the definition too. "Large" words (eg. ubiquitous) have definitions. Great work Cengage!
The textbook content is not bad as well, I really like the images it provides of the diagrams.

Textbooks start from scratch on every chapter, they define the terms and vocabulary used throughout the material. Every single concept is defined and explained with a few examples. So yes, it is verbose if you have some knowledge of the topic. If my grandma wanted to be a DBA this is the book she will have to read from cover to cover and when finishing it she will be able to fend off a job interview quite well!
As a textbook it is a very good book.
And all the negative properties of textbooks apply to this as well, so YMMV.

Textbooks start from scratch on every chapter, they define the terms and vocabulary used throughout the material. Every single concept is defined and explained with a few examples. So yes, it is verbose if you have some knowledge of the topic. If my grandma wanted to be a DBA this is the book she will have to read from cover to cover and when finishing it she will be able to fend off a job interview quite well!
As a textbook it is a very good book.
