Perfect for meatless Mondays. If you could only buy one vegetarian volume this is it. The peanut soup is outstanding. They do bold flavors. The seasonal section is very fun.

I have been a fan of Moosewood cookbooks from the very beginning. My children were raised with recipes from Enchanted Broccoli Forest and Moosewood. I never had a recipe fail and I love the food included in the cookbooks. Now there is a compilation of 250 most-requested recipes from their restaurant in upstate New York. (I once tried to get into their restaurant and there were no reservations taken. You had to wait on line and the last people to get in were the ones right before me, so I have never gotten to eat there). This book comes out for their fortieth anniversary and contains scrumptious recipes including appetizers, dips and spreads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, main dish salads, curries and stew, beans, frittatas and pies, casseroles, stuffed vegetables, wraps, rolls, strudels, tofu, pasta, fish, side salads, sides, side grains, salad dressings, condiments and salsas, sauces and gravies, and desserts.

Many of the recipes are familiar and much-loved by me. Their carrot cake is mouth-watering as is their banana cake with cream cheese frosting. Their main courses are fantastic and, except for fish, the book is vegetarian.

I highly recommend this book to all lovers of Moosewood and for those new to this wonderful series of cookbooks as well. They are all a joy to cook from and I will get started with this newest one tonight.

So many people have responded “It’s a Moosewood recipe” when I’ve asked about something they’ve made! I decided I must get one of their cookbooks. This is truly a great collection, with easy to understand instructions and ingredients that I recognize. No mysteries! And absolutely delicious.

Recipes are healthy, easy to read, lovely book. I lost my cookbook in one of my moves and realized when my bestie used hers to make me dinner what I had been missing! So much can be Googled these days, but to leaf through and relish each page, missing from my life!

I LOVE Moosewood cookbooks, and this is a great update to the original, which I still consider the best. It is definitely worth buying. They have put out a couple of cookbooks that were only mediocre. This cookbook has some modern recipes in it along with some twists on some old favorites. If you are purchasing the Kindle version, you may also want to purchase the print version as well. I ended up ordering just the Kindle version so I could use the Kindle copy in the kitchen rather than cart around the whole cookbook. I am not sorry for my purchase, it's just that a cookbook is really meant to thumb through. It's just not as fun on the Kindle. What I plan on doing is to order the print copy for reviewing recipes and then use the Kindle copy in the kitchen. You may want to consider buying both the print copy and the Kindle copy.

This is probably my favorite cookbook I own. I've never made a bad recipe out of it and I love how versatile the recipes are too. All throughout the book there are suggestions on how to change the recipe up by changing an ingredient or the method of cooking, which is great if you're a person who tries to cook locally and seasonally, but maybe isn't so great at knowing what would actually taste good (i.e. me). The layout of the book is really beautiful and the pictures will make you want to get in the kitchen.

I actually would rate this a 4.5 star book though, because I hate the cover that much! I like that the book is hardcover, but they chose that weird puffy covering that makes the book feel bulkier and I wish it was just a regular hardcover binding. I'm really getting picky though with my criticism. You'll definitely want these recipes for your kitchen!

Moosewood recipes are simple and based in easily found fresh ingredients, and you do not have to be an experienced vegetarian cook to accomplish them. I have several of their cookbooks in my library, but this is a welcome addition. Even the most "seasoned" cooks need new inspiration, and I found that in this cookbook. The cookbook is very well designed to use as a reference, and there is concise but relevant instruction to help you achieve the best results in the kitchen.

The recipes are generally "family" sized for 6-8 servings, so I sometimes make half the recipe if it seems as though there will be too many left-overs for us. Substitutions and variations are suggested to expand the actual number of dishes in the menu, limited only by your lack of imagination. I recommend it!

I love love love this cookbook. I eat 90% pescatarian, but also cook with my fiance, who is a meat eater. We've tried probably 15-20 recipes from this book and all but maybe 2 were awesome (and those two weren't even bad, just neutral). They do tend to be dairy and carb forward at times so if you're looking for healthier options try their healthy cookbook. But these recipes keep me from defaulting to the standard American diet. There are so many ingredients that I don't normally try that I've tried from these recipes. I will definitely be buying more Moosewood cookbooks when I get through this one.

We have two other Moosewood Cookbooks that we use quite regularly, and this one did not disappoint. We just wanted to expand our recipes to rotate, and this has given us a plethora of things to try! I love the array of things in here. Being from the area where the Moosewood Restaurant is located this is the next best thing when I'm an ocean away. So far all the recipes have been delicious and quite simple - I'm so grateful for such healthy meal ideas!

Sehr kreative und interessante Rezepte. Wir waren noch nie entäuscht von irgendeinem Gericht. Die Auswahl ist riesig und bunt, die Einleitungen klar. Jedes Rezept hat eine kleine Vorgeschichte, und am Ende auch Ideen, wie man es anders machen kann.
Das Buch würde ich sowohl den Vegetariern als auch Nichtvegetariern uneingeschränkt empfehlen.
Mit diesem Buch haben wir als Familie gelernt, wie bunt und schmackhaft unser Essen auch ohne Fleisch sein kann. Selbst überzeugte Fleischfresser unter uns essen jetzt auch gerne 3-5 Mal in der woche vegetarisch.

Also, großartiges Buch, das, ohne Witz, unsere Ess-gewohnheiten sehr positiv beeinflusst hat.

I bought this cookbook almost one year ago to the day When I make a recipe, I always write in comments. Out of curiosity, I counted the number of recipes I've tried --25 in one year. I have almost all the Moosewood cookbooks, including the original Mollie Katzen cookbooks, and this is definitely one of my favourites. Most of my written comments in the margins are 'Absolutely fabulous' or 'Really good'. Nothing has been mediocre for me, except maybe the brown rice pudding, which tasted a little too healthy for me as a dessert (having said that, my husband loved it). I regularly look at this cookbook and it's wonderful pictures and plan the next recipe I'm going to try as it's almost certain to be good. The only codicil is that I am not vegan, not wheat-adverse (and not even vegetarian by the way) so I sometimes prefer older versions of recipes (like the burgers) which include bread and dairy. Also, some of my favourite Mollie recipes like the bean salad, broccoli soup and Hungarian goulash are not included (I don't miss some of her strange additions to savoury meals like raisins, however--product of the seventies maybe :). Some of my favourite tried recipes are; spiced nuts, Portugese soup (labour intensive), Hungarian mushroom soup, Mexican salad plate, autumn salad plate, Cuban black beans, Carribbean fish and roasted cauliflower.
