This book is an introduction to servant leadership. The author argues that servant leadership is ethical, practical, and meaningful. He cites the universal importance of service, defines servant leadership, compares the power model of leadership with the service model, describes some key practices of servant-leaders, explores the meaningful lives of servant-leaders, and offers questions for reflection and discussion. The new second edition of the book provides additional quotations and examples; summaries of scholarly definitions of servant leadership and research on the impacts of servant leadership in the workplace; an appendix on servant leadership compared with other ideas or theories of leadership; and a list of sources for those who wish to explore servant leadership further.

If you are already given to volunteering and charitable work with the marginalized in society then you will be rewarded with a sense of affirmation that you are in the good company of notable others and you are "bearing the correct fruit" of your faith. I have experienced a sense of relief that a genuine servant's attitude runs cross-grained to what is usually called common sense or always watching out for self interests beyond the concerns of others. It provides the leaping off point for Keith's other book Servant Leadership in the Board Room. It is not an uncommon paradigm but rather one that has been brought to the forefront again in a timely manner when "I-ism" remains as the usually native attitude and way of life for most of mankind. We're all naturally self-centered and contribute to the inequities of society at large.

This has to be the best book I've read with applicable actions you can begin practicing right away. The writing is in everyday conversational English that is understandable at any education level. The book also has proven examples, that if applied, will show immediate improvement to better leadership and less stress while leading.

I really well writen book about Servant Leadership. A lot of people write about Servant Leadership without really understanding it well, Mr. Keith clearly understands the topic and writes in a way that helps others understand it too.

Great overview of the subject and the work that has been done by others.
Just like a “survey” course in college.
