On November 20, 1910, Mexicans initiated the world’s first popular social revolution. The unbalanced progress of the previous regime triggered violence and mobilized individuals from all classes to demand social and economic justice. In the process they shaped modern Mexico at a cost of two million lives.

This accessible and gripping account guides the reader through the intricacies of the revolution, focusing on the revolutionaries as a group and the implementation of social and political changes. In this volume written for the revolution's centennial, William H. Beezley and Colin M. MacLachlan recount how the revolutionary generation laid the foundation for a better life for all Mexicans.

A great and in-depth novel of the Mexican Revolution. I greatly appreciated how they included so many years after what many historians consider the end of the revolution. This is of course up for debate, but I liked how they covered all their bases and made a strong case for the lengthier Time span of the Mexican resolution.

This book wasn’t bad to read and even captures your attention all throughout. Sometimes it can be hard to understand because there is so much going on and although it is supposed to be chronological, it’s hard to remember people when they’re randomly brought up.

Dull and slanted to supporting the socialist aspect of the revolution.

This was a fantastic introduction to the Mexican Revolution. The authors divide the Revolution into several chronological chapters, each of which uses clear writing to describe the fascinating drama of this period. I especially appreciate the supporting material - photographs, bibliography, notes, even a list at the end of "25 Outstanding Books on Revolutionary Mexico". The Mexican Revolution used to feel overwhelming due to the sheer number of characters that were involved, so I appreciate that the authors were able to take the inherently-hectic revolution and were able to make sense of it through this book.
