About the author
Stephen Hawking's ability to make science understandable and compelling to a lay audience was established with the publication of his first book, A Brief History of Time, which has sold nearly 10 million copies in 40 languages. Hawking has authored or participated in the creation of numerous other popular science books, including The Universe in a Nutshell, A Briefer History of Time, On the Shoulders of Giants, The Illustrated On the Shoulders of Giants, and George's Secret Key to the Universe.

Who knew that Copernicus invoked the Pythagoreans already on the first page of his world-shaking tome, and then that he'd claim they inspired his heliocentric ideas? The Church stepped in and banned for two hundred years the "Pythagorean doctrine of the earth's mobility and the sun's immobility, a doctrine which is false and completely contrary to divine Scripture" (John Hopkins University Press, 1978).
And why does Hawking include only a single chapter of Kepler's 'Harmony of the World?' Is it because that's where Kepler illustrates his Music of the Planets, a notion he borrowed from the Pythagoreans?
Quite a ride.
I feel awed but not intimidated by these Giants because I very well understand their commitment -why do something if you are not committed to it? And when you are committed to something for every man and not only for your vile self, that makes you a giant.
I do believe that this book can teach us all the secret for all, just one word. PERSEVERANCE.

As for the content, it is not at all intuitive, but we are reading documents from hundreds of years ago. I find it an integrated and enjoyable edition.
The paper is ok, not with much quality nor with low quality.
An amazing effort of human mind.
