About the Author

Anu Singh-Cundy received her PhD from Cornell University and did post-doctoral research in cell and molecular biology at Penn State. She is an associate professor at Western Washington University, where she teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including organismal biology, cell biology, plant developmental biology, and plant biochemistry. Her research focuses on cell-cell communication in plants, especially self-incompatibility and other pollen-pistil interactions. She has published over a dozen research articles and has received several awards and grants, including a grant from the National Science Foundation.

After earning a degree in English literature at UC Berkeley,
Gary Shin turned his academic sites toward biology, first working as a field biologist and then moving into the lab to study population genetics. He earned his PhD at UCLA, studying the evolutionary genetics of viruses. Dr. Shin has worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and now teaches general biology at California State University, Long Beach, sharing his passion for biology with nonmajors.

This was the first I heard of text book rentals. It worked great! I asked my son to keep all of the original packaging, and he put it under his bed. When the class was over, we clicked on return book, printed the prepaid label, and brought it to the post office. It was very easy, and we saved a lot of money over buying the book! Will do it again!

Discover Biology 6th edition textbook is used in my course I'm enrolled in, biology 41. The book is useful because the chapter reading assignments are taken from this textbook. I enjoy reading the book and all the picture examples on each page. The pictures and illustrations help me understand the terms that are discussed in class lectures.

I can't say this is a good book or not, as when it comes to college course you don't have a choice. It was much cheaper then buying or renting from school, so it's a great book!

I’m just renting this book for biology class this semester but it’s completely worn out. The binding is falling apart and the book is so marked up that’s it’s distracting. I hope no one would have to use this book again because I don’t think it would last another semester.
