This book literally changed my life! I was sleeping in the bed with my baby while my husband slept in the guest room. My child was waking up all through the night, and I was nursing him back to sleep. I had not had more than two hours of consecutive sleep in months. The situation got worse and worse until I found this book. I found parts of it addressed my situation exactly. We set a time to get started (on a Friday night since we both work full-time), and followed the books instructions. I couldn't believe how quickly my child was sleeping through the night. It's two months later, and he is STILL sleeping through the night - usually 10 to 11 hours. When he wakes up, he puts himself back to sleep pretty quickly. I was convinced that my child was going to be the exception to the rule because of all the bad habits we had instilled in him, but instead, he's doing awesome! I HIGHLY recommend this book!

This book is what helped us get our three-month-old sleeping through the night. True, the advice on placing babies on their stomachs is outdated, but if your pediatrician is anything like mine, you have been told 1,000 times already to put your baby on his/her back. The authors of this book provide methods for getting babies to sleep through the night without resorting immediately to a cry-it-out method. It worked very well for us, as our baby was showing no signs of lengthening his night-time sleep on his own (feeding every 2-3 hours) but seemed physically capable of doing it.

The downside to this book is that it is less helpful about naps and early risers.

Also, if you are a family bed type, this book won't help you much at all.

I was given a tatterd copy by a friend who used and loved this book. I used and loved it (worked like a charm!). I give a copy to EVERY new parent I know, and EVERYONE who has used it has had 100% success and loved it. One person refused to use it, wanting to "go with the flow of her child's natural rhythms," and her child is still not sleeping at 5 yrs old, the mother has chronic migraines and can't hold a job; oh well, it's not for lack of an answer...

Must have book, easy read, worked like a charm for a child that never slept through the night and always slept in our bed instead of crib. Total lifesaver, easy to implement made me feel supported as a mother. Great book!

This is a classic that saved me! My first child slept 45 minutes at a time...I am grateful for this wisdom and have just sent it to an expectant friend in case she ever needs it!

I bought this book based on the other customer comments. It is not the book for me and my four month old. This book has not been updated since 1985 and recommends that the safest position for baby to sleep is on their stomachs! It also discourages co-sleeping or baby sleeping in the same room with you. The authors start "the program" at about 5 -7 weeks; which in my short experience is too early to get your little angel on any kind of "stretching" schedule. If you read Dr. Sears or Penelope Leach, you probably won't like this book either.

I read this eleven years ago and since then have given it to three friends. All I can say is, it worked. There was practical "how to" advice.

3.0 out of 5 stars un bon livre
