He died in November 1990.

One of my favourite recipes is the rose-petal sorbet - a Charlie's Chocolate Factory confection come to life, and which any rose grower will find irresistible!

If you like Road Dahl's writing, his wit - you must read this book, but try to forget his other books for a moment and enjoy these real-life stories and anecdotes written in the last stage of his life, all mixed up with recipes and photographs and comments. This is the last thing he wrote, and it must be appreciated and savoured! Dont expect just a plain cookbook.

This is not your regular cookbook. It is part memoir, part love letter to family members and part recipe book. His words and wisdom are warm and touching and, whilst many of the recipes seem to hark from another, slower era, it is a fascinating read, along the same lines as Jane Grigson or Elizabeth David. Deeply British.

I loved this book. It is not just a recipe book but also a diary. The book is full of anecdotes and familiar histores telling who used to cook the recipes wher did they learned about the meals and other funny histories.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I was part of the Dahl family

I have loads of cookery books and bought this for an enjoyable read. I had bought a copy for my sister possibly 20 years ago and just got a copy myself this year. It's a wonderful book. The recipes are eclectic and inspiring but the best bit is that glimpse into the Dahl Household. How many of us have longed to have a Roald Dahl style granddad after growing up on his stories? I have read snippets out to my kids a adapted various of the recipes. Just a peach of a book. Thank you Roald for everything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic.....

Well, its a lovely presented book with hints of Roald Dahl's book illustration handy-work that is so familiar. Some amazing recipes are nestled in this book, the odd awful one thrown in for good measure too ;). However, I honestly wasn't expecting to be faced with the type of recipes that are in this book... Ones that I can only describe as 'vintage'. A nice book to adorn the shelf though.
