There are only 7 chapters in this book and they go over the following topics:
1) From Prescription to Payment: Becoming a Pharmacy Technician Insurance Specialist
2) Medicolegal Issues and the Pharmacy
3) Private Insurance and the Pharmacy
4) Medicare
5) Medcaid, TRICARE, CHAMPVA, Worker's Compensation, and Discount Card Programs
6) Claim Preparation and Transmission
and
7) Processing Claims and Reconciling Accounts.
Landing at 180 pages including the appendix, the chapters are relatively short and easy to read through in a couple of sittings. Each chapter has a Chapter Summary with Chapter Review Questions which are comprise of Multiple Choice, Matching, True/False, and Short Answer. However, there are no answers provided anywhere in the book so, aside from truly knowing the information, it's hard to check to make sure you have the correct answers. The glossary in the book is fairly short but it does contain all the important words in there to help you out.
Because this book was published in 2009, there are some bits of information that are out of date, so keep that in mind when you're reading through the material. Also on page 113, there is an instance where the book refers to the NPI number formally known as the NABP number which is incorrect.
Overall, this book will help you gain an understanding of how Medical Insurance works and how it relates to a pharmacy. Keep in mind though, you may run into situations in the pharmacy that are not covered in this book, but some of the same concepts you learn in this book can be applied.
