I am reading this book along with my pharmacology course as a second year medical student at a school that has a very traditional curriculum. I'm finding this book to be a great companion. Sometimes in class a lecturer can have me quite puzzled about something, and so I'll open this book up on my iPad (I have the Kindle version) and Katzung & Trevors has an elegant flowchart or graph, or even a single paragraph of what a professor was fumbling around trying to explain. Besides its clarity, the other thing that impresses me is that I'll often find an image in First Aid that is an exact replica of an image found in this particular book. Again, I am using this book to help me with my coursework and am finding it very helpful. So, if you're like me and are taking a pharmacology course and would like a review book to follow along with, I highly recommend this board review. Use this to not only help you pick out the high yields, but to help you UNDERSTAND pharm. Because in the end, you must understand it before you try to memorize for STEP!

Another great update of this long-running pharmacology review text. This new edition includes a number of recently developed drugs that may show up on examinations. The summary tables at the end of each chapter have been redone in full color and are a perfect way to review on the fly. The degree of detail strikes a good balance between other resources out there (i.e., Lippincott's flash cards = over-the-top; Lange flash cards = not enough). The practice questions at the end of each chapter and the 2 comprehensive exams are also helpful. This text is best as a companion to coursework, folks looking for a super-concise pharmacology cram tool should look elsewhere.

I definitely love and use this book. After borrowing it from friends for months to review before exams, I finally bought my own copy and it has definitely been worth it. Whether you need it to help solidify your mental framework when learning about a grueling class of drugs that all sound the same or to do some last-minute study before a big exam, this is a great resource. (I shouldn't have to say this, but this is not a primary resource. Don't use this as your only pharmacology text, as I have seen some student try to do.)

My only qualm, and the reason that I give it 4 stars rather than 5 is the fact that it does not have page numbers that line up with the print version. It is so much easier to study in groups when you can quickly back up your points with page references or use a well-drawn diagram to reinforce what you want to convey to your friends.

Med school isn't cheap. There are a lot of books you could spend your little money on. This one, I think, is worth it.

I love this book, it is very concise and clear with key concepts. This should be a supplemental education book and not be the entirety of your pharm knowledge if you're a med student. I think that it is particularly nice to review toward the end of the year and right before block exams because once you've learned the information this is a quick reinforcement. Regarding my comment on this book being supplemental, I have the Basic and Clinical Pharmacology textbook as well and I find myself using the Exam and Board Review book much more often.

For the price it is so worth it to own!

3 of the 4 authors are PhDs so clinical subjects are emphasized less than receptors and ligands and cell biology. Read this for effects on patients and ignore all the gabaminergic this and mechanisms that and learn what you need for patient care. Very unbalanced.

I'm a 2nd year med student and bought this book because my pharm lectures seemed pretty low yield and often confusing. I was looking for something that would present me with all the information I needed in a readily digestible form. This book is amazing. It has pretty much all the information that's essential to know, it's well organized, and it does all that in only a few pages per class. To top it off, it includes questions that test your comprehension at the end of the chapter with FULL explanations. Highly recommend.

This is a great book to go along with the Katzung, Masters, and Trevor Basic & Clinical Pharmacology (12th edition) book. It summarizes the chapters from the Pharmacology book and has questions that review each chapter. Our teacher uses this book as a source from some of our examination questions. Plus, it is a great review for the nurse practitioner examination.

Really liked this book. I only give 5 stars if the book is a game-changer, and this book didn't quite make that level. This book satisfied what I needed from it, but I still needed more info in certain cases or less. Not amazing for boards studying but the questions after each chapter are very good.
