I really enjoyed this book. "Sully", of course, concerns the events of January 15, 2009 on Flight 1549, and the "miracle landing" in the Hudson River in which no lives were lost. The book provides a profile of a life-long commitment to the disciplined profession of flying, from his youthful start, learning on an Aeronca 7DC crop duster, through his military service and into his professional pilot career with U.S. Airways. Just as compelling are the insights into the history of air travel, close calls and notable events through the years, and a life-long commitment to safety. Captain Sullenberger's writing is exactly what you would expect from the world's best known pilot: laconic, thoughtful, modest, honest and direct. "Sully" is a quick read, but has enough variety of subject matter and depth to be worth your time. One of the most fascinating aspects of the book are insights into the airline industry, which has seen many changes and challenges over the past thirty years. Airline employees have had to deal with the aftermath of deregulation, pay cuts and give backs, pension degradation and a strict seniority system that prevents lateral transfers to other airlines. Sully's meditations on life (the book is subtitled "My Search for What Really Matters") also provide rich subject matter for contemplation. He says, "People who love their jobs work more diligently at them. They become more adept at the intricacies of their duties. They serve the world well." Sully is a pragmatic sort of philosopher who feels we should each do our part to contribute to the general welfare. He lives this philosophy, has demonstrated it in life-long commitment, and has indeed served our world well.

Very well written by just a "regular guy". I don't read a whole lot if autobiographies, but very glad I read this one! Sully's life story leading up to his sudden fame for landing safely in the Hudson was very interesting. And the story if the flight itself is intense, but infused with hope. Sully truly is humble, intense, truly committed to his love of flight and continuous learning. Kudos to him, his flight crew and his amazing family; and thank you for sharing your story and insights in this wonderful, book.

And, in fact, now I do feel as though I know Captain Sullenberger. This is a very pleasant autobiography of a remarkable, unremarkable, human being whose skills were tested to the max and who succeeded. Most of us can point to a high point in our lives, a time of which we are very proud; not many of us can say our actions saved 155 lives. The book is well put together and not as dry as might be expected because he shares enough personal information to make this a personal story and not merely a report of events. A very good read.

This is one of the best books I've read in quite a long time. We need to know about people like Sully and all the pilots like him. They have taken such a hit financially and the demands placed on them after all that training. I have a new appreciation for all of the Sullys out there.

I live in Mexico City, and not related to the event that unfortunately happened that made Captain Sully famous. At the same time fortunately that Crew taking care of that flight. I saw the movie with Tom Hanks, and at the credits read that there is a book by Captain Sully. I just had to read it!

I'm glad I did. The book is not only his biography and the detailed description of the event of the flight landing at Hudson River, but also providing food for thought, with lessons to use personally. It is inspiring.

Plus the thought of using the services of the Airlines. It is amazing how one gets for granted that leaving and arriving on time appears to be our priority, when it should actually be arriving safely. It is a nice and high responsibility for all people working in that Industry, but a high responsilibity on the Pilots, Officers, and Crews. GRACIAS!!!

Thanks, Sully. God Bless You, Captain! Dios lo bendiga, Capitán!

I have been inspired with Sully from the day I saw this on the news. I am anxious to see the movie but I wanted first to read his personal account. He is even more of a hero in my eyes today than ever before. I believe there is one miracle in this story that may have been overlooked. At least I haven't seen it addressed.
The fact that he and this particular crew were the people to carry this out is a miracle in itself. A different pilot and crew could have certainly had a different outcome. There are so many worse scenarios of what could have happened but after you read of his commitment and diligence he has shown throughout his life you will understand the true magnitude of this situation . This book had me in tears reading the first chapter and then again throughout the entire book. Sully is a hero to me and I am so thankful there are people like him and his outstanding crew to look out for our safety in the sky. Thank you Sully.

I highly recommend this book. It is very easy reading and he tells his story as if he is talking directly to you personally.

A fascinating behind the scenes insight of US aviation. Sullenberger takes us through his history of military flying and also his life as a commercial pilot. What is clearly evident is his love of actually piloting aircraft and his quest for the optimal flying speed, angles and fight path. As a passenger, its great to know that the crew in the cockpit really do enjoy their work. After reading the book I am more aware of the interest the crew have in their passengers. The chapters dealing with the landing on the Hudson river are fascinating to read. It is clear that aircraft construction as well as intense crew training, education and experience all contribute to the outcome where all the crew and passengers survived. The incident is very similar to SAS flight 751 where there was also a complete engine failure after take-off, although for different reasons. It is so important that our pilots have the right skills and knowledge to deal imaginatively with these challenges. A great book.
