Next, McMillan provides solutions to common canine behavior problems, including house training issues, door dashing, chewing, barking, and common mealtime misbehaviors. Lucky Dog Lessons includes easy-to-follow steps, illustrative examples, tried-and-true tips and tricks, and photographs to demonstrate each technique. Throughout the book, McMillan shares inspiring stories about his favorite students and gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the show and some of his most unique and challenging canine encounters, including some never-before-seen outtakes.

It actually works!! And saved my sanity!

It actually works!! And saved my sanity!
I have a 15 week old English Lab puppy who’s 45# and grumbled, barked, whined, and argued to get his way. I must admit I’ve spoiled this cute boy and he’s picked up very bad habits and it was almost driving me batty at times how vocal he could be when he couldn’t be rt with me. I bought the Audio version first, realized I already had most everything needed to use the training techniques in this book, but knowing his stubbornness due to my bad parenting I purchased his training bottle and paperback version for a quick reference guide. 24 hrs into just utilizing the training bottle and following his very simple simple guide. All I have to say is “ Quiet “ now when he starts what used to be his fits and objections to whatever and he settles down. No more over the top obsessively barking demands for everything and our house is soooooo much more peaceful!! I can’t wait to start on the rest of training tomorrow as I’m ditching the dog food bowl all together and Going to make him work/train for his food. I can see him being a completely different dog in just a week if I stick with it and use this easy to follow guide.

Author Brandon McMillan guest host of the TV show Lucky Dog is an experienced animal trainer having grown up in a family of trainers. His book is full of helpful and useful techniques to train your dog , allowances and tips are given for all types and breeds of dogs as well as stories based on his experiences. There is a chapter devoted to each of the 7 Basic Commands and if you have watched his tv show you have heard them before. Each command is adequately explained and includes the equipment needed to practice it. There are also chapters on common dog problems with corresponding training . These common problems such as excessive barking, digging , aggression and door dashing etc. can be dealt with and failure to train usually results in an owner giving up on dogs and increasing the shelter population and possible euthanasia. By following these techniques enumerated in this book, dogs can be saved from shelters , possible euthanasia and become more adoptable and find their forever home. This is Brandons mission , to rescue dogs and get them into loving homes. This book was chock full of helpful information and can be a valuable resource to anyone who owns a dog or will eventually. I absolutely LOVE this book. It has been my dog training bible and I have read it cover to cover twice and I go back to it as a reference tool. Brandon McMillan gives you the complete recipe to help your dog master the 7 most important commands plus helpful insight with stories and pictures. The only thing you need to add is love & patience, perseverance, and repetition. Patience and repetition are KEY. The time it takes to master a command is going to depend on a lot of variables. Some commands my dogs got right away whereas others took longer. Dogs get it. You just can’t give up too soon. Until it clicks for them, it takes a lot of patience. But once it does…so rewarding! I incorporate training practice into each am/pm walk so it makes it easier to be consistent. This book taught me how to train my own dogs on my own. Saved me money and it’s so fun when you see them make progress! I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to invest the time and effort because the rewards are amazing. Priceless. 5 stars!

I got a puppy this summer and have been reading several books and online articles to help me with my new little bundle of joy. This book got really good reviews and the author seemed really likable, so I gave it a try. One thing I've noticed about dog advice "experts" is that most of them claim to have the best and the right way to train your dog, and yet they often have very different ideas about what is best and right. I say, take his advice with a grain of salt, get opinions from other sources, and if you have the patience to wade through his whole book, make sure to take the ideas that seem best suited for your dog and go with that. There were definitely some helpful hints about training specific behaviors and commands. I'm glad I took the time to read through to get to these parts. However, if you're short on time (or patience), you can probably get just as much support by going online and searching for the particular questions you have about raising your dog.

I'm working with a 15 month old Teacup Maltese, that is independent, very active/rambunctious and spoiled. So far she understands STAY and is learning to COME. The training tips/instructions are simple and we're making great progress. THANK YOU for making it simple!

I had borrowed this from the local library. I found it very helpful and wanted a copy so that I could quickly reference training needs. Brandon is a great trainer and tells you how to handle everyday situations. Especially if you have a pet that’s not always cooperative.

I love the show and so I bought the book. The book has lots of stories about real dogs he's trained over the years and it goes into great detail about training methods. Gives a lot of options depending on whether you have a small dog or large dog, which is a plus and not something I'd seen in other dog training info. It is a lot of reading. It's not just a simple picture book with brief instructions. He goes into great detail, which is good, but it does require a lot of reading time to get thru.

My biggest complaint is that most of his sollutions require the purchase of some kind of dog training equipment. Everything from a clicker, to a shake can, to a leading lure, to certain types of collars, harnesses and leashes. Frankly, I just want to train my puppy in basic commands and do away with a few annoying bad habits (jumping, and biting hands) I don't want to have to gear up like a professional dog trainer and buy a bunch of stuff that I won't need in a few weeks time. If I have to buy all this gear to properly train my dog, I will just enroll him for professional dog training and be done with it.
So keep in mind, these techniques are good and will no doubt work, IF you have the time, the commitment and are willing to invest in training equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bien estructurado para entender como mejorar la relación con tu mascota
Reviewed in Mexico on March 30, 2021

We rescued a 1.5 year old street dog from India. Lot of obstacles. This book makes it simple. Heard about it on a podcast and really happy we got it. He keeps things clear and to the point. The author's goal is to make this as straight forward a process as possible and prove anyone can do it. You owe it to your dog to be the most understanding you can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone serious about owning a dog
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 6, 2020
This is an excellent book on dog training and how to get your dog to be a companion/family dog. Filled with many shared personal experiences with various breeds each with a different challenge and how this was addressed. It takes you through how to teach your dog the seven basic commands and how to deal with behavioural issues. Found the tip on how to deal with a nipping dog challenging as not sure how I will do this with my Bullmastiff, when I finally get one - and here’s hoping I do not have to deal with that problem. The author is clearly a high confident leader and trainer of animals, not just dogs and this comes through in the book. Worth every penny. Email address please so we can at least chat with the author.
